Joel Carlson has been working with Linux & has been a member of TACLUG since the late 90's. In fact when the first TRS-80's became available at Radio Shack in the 70's, he ran out and bought one realizing the future potential. The first application was a general ledger program purchased from a CPA in California for $29.95 that produced financial statements for his own and other construction companies on at that time. It didn't take long to realize that monopolistic control by one company of software and the web wide web (which is really a utility like electricity or water) is not good. Joel's main source of income has always been from buying, developing & selling real estate so he has always viewed software from the users point of view rather than being an insider. Primary distributions used are Suse Linux for state-of-the-art computers & Puppy Linux for older computers, low capacity computers, appliances & flash drives. If there were an opportunity to make money from Linux, he would consider it.
