Description: This is the ninth book on mining in Cornwall from Joff Bullen, it includes a selection of scenes from around the Redruth and Camborne area but in particular it illustrates some of the mines that were wrought in connection with the Great Flat Lode. This extensive body of tin, situated in the Central Mining District of the County, was the mainstay in depth of many mines south of Carn Brea which commenced their existence as prolific copper producers. The last of these mines was closed in the early 1920s during the slump post WW1. Once again the author has produced an eminently readable volume with extensive and authoritative captions. The photographic archive from which these images are drawn is a very large and unique record of mining in the County of Cornwall. As a world Heritage Site the south western part of England is acknowledged as the home of hard rock mining. This book contains the evidence to substantiate that accolade.
