Agenda: Theme of the day: !Linux 1:00-1:45 Introductions and Announcements 2:00-3:00 Jeremy C. Reed will be giving a presentation about BSD licensing, BSD history, and BSD operating systems. This introduction will discuss some of the similarities and differences between Linux and *BSD, and also between the three main BSD flavours: NetBSD, FreeBSD, and OpenBSD. Reed will also quickly introduce the build from source systems and the ports and pkgsrc collections. Reed, a consultant for Puget Sound Technology, is a NetBSD and pkgsrc developer and also works on a variety of other open source development and advocacy tasks. 3:15-3:45 How UNIX Made Linux Possible Chris Negus will talk about free (as in speech) software, community, and building blocks that all started with the UNIX operating system. 4:00-4:30 OS X for Linux geeks A hands-on demonstration by Jesse Keating Notes: No notes were recorded. |
